Presentation transcript:

Early Years Foundation Stage Mrs Lambert & Mrs Loader We would like to take the opportunity to welcome you and your child to our class. Throughout the year there will be lots of opportunities for your child to share their school experiences with you, for example on a Tuesday and Thursday you are welcome to Stay & Play. If you would like to help in school after half term, please ask at the school office for a CRB form.

Our curriculum The children are engaging in a variety of stimulating activities and learning to use all the resources in the classroom and outdoor areas during the induction period. They will continue to do this throughout the year in their Child Initiated Learning   As most of you already know there are no specific topics taught, apart from in R.E, as the teaching is based around the children’s interests.

R. E. In our R E lessons we will be learning about: God’s world   In our R E lessons we will be learning about: God’s world God’s family Getting to know Jesus Sorrow & Joy New life The church The children will be encouraged to talk about their own experiences and to role play lots of scenarios and bible stories.   We will also look at festivals and celebrations in other faiths such as Eid, Diwali & Chinese New Year.

Literacy In Literacy we will be: learning our individual letter sounds linking sounds to letters recognising some common words by sight developing our pencil control enjoying a wide range of books. ( 5 a day )

Maths In Maths we will be: counting, ordering and recognising numbers exploring regular two dimensional shapes finding one more or one less than a given number exploring length, weight and capacity using comparable language

Expressive Arts and Design In EAD we will be: learning how to colour mix painting on canvas and water colour paper using clay and being taught how to use different tools and techniques singing and experimenting with the sounds of different instruments (dedicated lesson on Wednesday with our specialist music teacher) role playing based on our interests

Understanding of the World In Understanding of the World we will be: exploring our school environment and this term looking for signs of change using technology such as laptops and Bee Bots in small groups on a weekly basis learning to complete a simple program on the computer Play interactive games on the smart board.

P S E D In PSED we will be: learning to care for our indoor and outdoor environment learning to share our class resources with our friends learning to speak about ourselves in positive terms and talk about our interests and abilities learning about our class and school rules

Physical development The children will be developing their gross motor skills in a variety of play situations using the resources in our outdoor area every day. Please bring in a coat! The children will be participating in simple P.E. lessons every Friday. In the Summer term, children will be swimming for half a term.

Homework The children will come home with a homework diary in their book bags. This is a two way communication book. We will also use the diary to post the sight words and any homework based on the children’s interests we will be working on each week, for your information To make excellent progress, young children need constant reinforcement. For this reason your support is warmly welcomed.

Reading When the children have settled, they will come home with a reading book. The children will begin with picture books. This is a crucial stage in learning to read. Please take time to share the book with your child, making up stories by looking at the pictures. The books will be available outside the Reception classroom on Mondays and Thursdays where you can help your child to choose a book. When you have shared a book with your child please make a comment and sign the homework diary.

Phonics Although we are aware that the children start school with different experiences with regard to learning their sounds, all children will be following the Department for Education’s phonic scheme, Letters and Sounds. The sounds that we will be learning will be posted in the homework diary each week. To reinforce this learning, pupils will be sent home with handwriting sheets to practice with you.

Finally We look forward to working with you and your child in the year ahead. If you have any questions, we are happy to see you before or after school or please write them in the homework diary and we will speak to you when we get a chance.
