NEPAD LAND GOVERNANCE PROGRAMME (LGP) LGP main purpose to provide strategic support to African countries in addressing land governance issues Design and implement interventions for land governance challenges and opportunities in Africa’s development agenda LGP takes multi-sector approach to land governance: agriculture and livestock systems mining and other extractive industries forestry, reserved areas, hunting and tourism urban development and real estate; and infrastructure development.

PHASE 1 PILOTS Comprised 4 pilot country studies: BURKINA FASO, CAMEROON, MALAWI, and TANZANIA The 4 country reports served to: Develop and test a country level self-assessment tool and scorecard usable for cross-country assessment and programme design and implementation Provided an initial proof of concept in the application of the tool and its adaptation for replication and scaling up. Demonstrate how to strengthen the methodology in country by leveraging existing LGAF data and tools

LGP DEVELOPMENT PHASES PHASE 1 (2015): Develop and pilot country self-assessment tool PHASE 2: (2016): Develop the country and sector assessment tools and modules, including for policy oriented land governance and land use monitoring Develop basic land governance data collection tools (regulatory framework, administrative, survey and census, spatial) Develop training and capacity development programmes and modules. PHASE 3: 2017- Implementation.
