Australia Council grants program Arts Projects Grants Career Development Grants Fellowships International Residencies

General Eligibility Criteria Open to individuals, groups and organisations Individuals and groups must be practising artists or arts workers and an Australian citizen or permanent resident International organisations can apply for projects that actively benefit practicing Australian artists or their work What you can’t apply for Projects or activities that do not involve or benefit practising artists or arts workers Projects or activities that do not have a clearly defined arts component Projects that have already taken place

Arts Projects Grants $10,000 – $50,000 for individuals and groups $10,000 – $100,000 for organisations Funding for a range of activities that deliver benefits for the arts sector and wider public, including national and international audiences. Projects may run for up to three years for individuals and two years for organisations. Artistic Merit Peers will assess the artistic merit of the works at the centre of your proposed activity Viability Peers will assess the viability of your proposal

Arts Projects Grants Creation Peers will assess the contribution to the creation of new work Audiences Peers will assess the contribution to audience engagement Access and participation Peers will assess the contribution to arts access and participation International Peers will assess the contribution to the international profile of Australian arts

Arts Projects Grants Example projects: Creating a new work or body of work Exhibitions, recordings, publications, performances and touring Research, experimentation and creative development Promotion and marketing activities Festivals Presentation of an event or a series of events A program of activities

Career Development Grants $5,000 - $25,000 Funding for a range of activities that benefit the career of an individual artist, arts worker or group. Projects may run for up to two years. Potential of the artist/artists Peers will assess the potential of the artist/s at the centre of your proposed activity Viability Peers will assess the viability of your proposal Impact on career Peers will assess the impact the proposed activity will have on your career

Career Development Grants Example projects: Attending a workshop or technical course Undertaking a self-organised residency within Australia or abroad Engaging a mentor to teach skills and deepen knowledge Attending a leadership course or professional skills development opportunity Attending an arts fair, festival, conference or market development opportunity Undertaking a secondment or internship

Fellowships Australia Council Fellowships of $80,000 support outstanding, established artists’ creative activity and professional development for a period of up to two years. Outstanding professional achievement Peers will assess the depth of experience of the artist and the significance of their professional achievement. Viability Peers will assess the viability of your proposal Impact on career Peers will assess the impact that the fellowship period will deliver to the artist and/or sector

Grants program tips for research and applications from academics Keep the language simple – peers are reading many applications and not all of them will be research applications Project can be up to two years – Arts Project applications can take place over two years Administration costs – universities administration fees can put peers off, keep to a minimum if possible Academic salaries – be very clear about arrangements for salaries on the project. Apply well in advance – if our grant is to be part of an ARC proposal
