Helping Others Love Family History Work Creating Positive Experiences for the Walk-Ins

Find, Take, Teach Our goal: provide for friends and family a positive Find, Take, Teach experience. Some of your time each week should be spent on Find, Take, Teach experiences for those you have invited to participate You can: Identify and contact individuals and families to teach Prepare for their visit by Finding or creating names in their tree which they can take to the temple Creating a lesson plan prior to their visit. Following up with those you are teaching.

Find, Take, Teach for Walk-ins Start with the end in mind. We want each guest that we serve to have a good experience and feel that their time has been well spent. Jumping into the cold. At the Center with walk-ins we’ve had no time to prepare for their visit and prepare a lesson plan. However, if you are prepared and have sharpened your own family history skills, you can still provide a good experience for them, ask them if they’d like to come back after you’ve had time to check their tree and prepare a lesson plan.

Find, Take, Teach Principles for Walk-ins Prepare ahead of time. Improve your own family history skills Use your skills to simplify the process of finding a name that they can take to the temple. Be spiritually prepared, exercise your faith, listen to the Spirit Pray for your guests

Find, Take, Teach Principles for Walk-ins Ask: “What is your goal?” For every guest or friend that you help it is important to understand what their goals are and how you can help them. Ask “How much time do you have?” Don’t give them more than what they’ve asked or divert off into other areas or tools of Family History that will take them off the path they have chosen. Say a silent prayer for guidance and follow the promptings of the Spirit

Be kind and patient with the patron and with yourself. Allow the patron time to think it through or write things down Be positive and Listen to them Keep things simple Let the patron control the mouse and keyboard Give encouragement and praise Help them see the positive steps they are making

Spirit of Elijah The work will happen in the heart of the individual. Remember that we are there to help them but it is the Spirit of the Holy Ghost who will ultimately teach and convert them.

Find, Take, Teach for Walk-ins Teach people (conversion), help convert members to family history and temple work

The temple Point them to the temple.

Referrals Ask for referrals. For both walk-ins and invited guests take the time to ask them for referrals that you can work with or invite them to bring their friends and families to come back with them to the Center. Write down their names and contact information so that you can follow up with them.

Access to the tree / can I login as you using helper number. For walk-in guests you will not have time to check their tree and prepare a lesson plan in advance. Invite them to come back after you have had time to review their tree and prepare a lesson plan for them.
