Jake Pearce and Daniel Brown present: Mousetrap car

Design Process

Construction Materials used: Mousetrap Monofilanent (String) Hot glue CO2 car kit Rubber band

Performance Our mousetrap car traveled 5.2 meters in an average of 2 seconds. http://youtu.be/al-cAADZPBw

Physics Analysis While winding the string around our axle, the mousetrap began to set in its initial snapping position creating a conserved energy. The conserved energy is transformed into kinetic as the mousetrap pulls the string which moves the wheel and axle.

P&B Mk1

Conclusion The car performed right up to our standards. After reaching our 5 meter requirement, we were impressed by the extra .2 meters that we reached. The mass of .094 kg and a velocity of 2.36 meters/second we found that the car had the kinetic energy of .2617712 J.
