Facts About The Bible

Is The Word of God 1 Thess. 2:13 1 Cor. 2:9-13 Eph. 3:3-5 2 Tim. 3:16-17

Is Standard of Authority Men say they believe this: “The authority of the Holy Scripture, for which it ought to be believed and obeyed, dependeth not upon the testimony of any man, or Church; but wholly upon God (who is truth itself) the author thereof: and therefore it is to be received because it is the Word of God” (The Westminster Confession)

Is Standard of Authority Men say they believe this: “The Holy Scriptures contain all things necessary to salvation; so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man that it should be believed as an article of faith, or be thought requisite or necessary to salvation.” (The Methodist Discipline – p. 28)

Is Standard of Authority Men say they believe this: “All evangelical churches profess to take the Holy Scriptures as their only and sufficient guide in matters of religious faith and practice. Baptists, especially, claim to have no authoritative creed except the New Testament.” (Standard Manual for Baptist Churches – p. 56)

Two Views Toward Authority 1. Free to do anything not expressly forbidden 2. If it is not authorized in scriptures we must not do

Which View Is Correct? 2 John 9 2 Timothy 3:16,17 Matthew 7:21-23 1 Peter 4:11

Is Complete 2 Timothy 3:16,17 2 Peter 1:3 James 1:25 Jude 3 cf. Hebrews 9:28

Will Be Judged By John 12:48 Revelation 20:12

What Must I Do To Be Saved? Hear the gospel (Rom. 10:17) Believe Jesus is Christ (Acts 8:37) Repent of your sins (Luke 13:3) Confess your faith (Mt. 10:32) Baptized for remission of sins (Acts 2:38) Walk by faith in newness of life (Rom. 6:4)
