Write like the writer A good way to learn to write descriptively, is to copy or imitate a style that you have read. Imagine you are one of these climbers or you are taking part in an extreme sport… You are terrified, yet exhilarated… How will you use language and structure to communicate these feelings to your readers?

Read through the text, what do you notice? How is the meaning communicated? Look for: Use of repetition Short disjointed sentences Use of ‘I’ and ‘you’ Commanding words Use of rhetorical questions Use of punctuation

When writing your own version, use the devices and the style of writing to improve your own. You will find a style that suits you and the theme which you are describing

My version… Where are you? Why, oh why is there none left? Who can I blame for this? My husband? My…myself...? I’m angry, I’m hurt and I’m in need! Caffeine, my beautiful cup of coffee, where are you? How can there not be any? How can I function in this ugly world without my soulmate? My steaming, luxurious friend… when you were here, I took advantage of you, and I’m, so sorry! I stare, in shock and despair at the empty coffee pot where you once lived. There is none. I need you back, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…I’m sorry…  

Now write your own version Ideas… Loss of an item of clothing Shop running out of what you want Football team loosing a match Your favourite person being voted off X Factor A TV series finishing Anything you like!
