GI Bill The Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944—commonly known as the GI Bill of Rights—nearly stalled in Congress as members of the House and Senate debated provisions of the controversial bill. Veterans Center was created in 2009 and housed in Psychology building prior to moving to Bouillon in 2012. Student Process Prior/after applying to CWU, contact Veterans Center Complete all of the necessary paperwork provided by staff Attend an orientation if possible Enroll in courses After student enrolls and then submits schedule to our office

Office Process Staff receives schedule and verifies course/s meet requirements (general education, major, cert, minor, 180) Enrollment information submitted to VA Veterans Center Hold placed on students account

Reportable Courses We are allowed to report courses that are required based on the catalog: General Education Major Minor Certificate 180 credit requirement Recommended/suggested courses are not reportable

Repeatable Courses Classes that are successfully completed may not be certified again for VA purposes if they are repeated However, if a student fails a class, or if a program requires a higher grade than the one achieved in a particular class for successful completion, that class may be repeated and certified to VA again

Repeatable Courses Examples Example 1: if a Nursing program requires a “B” or better in Biology, then that class may be repeated if a “B” or better was not earned. That requirement must be in the school catalog. Example 2: If a course is required for graduation, a student may repeat the course and be certified for it until it is successfully completed. No further information needs to be provided to VA regarding those courses. Example 3: If a student chooses to repeat a course that was successfully completed, just to improve their GPA, that course cannot be certified to VA.

Questionable Courses When a course does not fit directly into a degree program an email is sent to the student Course substitutes do work for VA purposes we just need verification from academic advisor or a department representative New courses are sometimes created that are not published in the catalog which can be used with advisor verification
