Compound Interest and Simple Interest

Principal Interest Simple Interest The money borrowed or lent out for a certain period is called the principal or the sum. Interest Extra money paid for using other's money is called interest. Simple Interest If the interest on a sum borrowed for certain period is reckoned uniformly, then it is called simple interest.

Simple Interest =(P x R x T)/100 Let Principal = P, Rate = R% per annum (p.a.) and Time = T years. Then Simple Interest =(P x R x T)/100

Q1) What total payment can clear a debt of Rs. 4600 due in 4 years Q1) What total payment can clear a debt of Rs. 4600 due in 4 years . The S.I. rate being 10% per annum. 5860 6200 6440 6520

Q2) A man took loan from a bank at the rate of 12% p. a Q2) A man took loan from a bank at the rate of 12% p.a. simple interest. After 3 years he had to pay Rs. 5400 interest only for the period. The principal amount borrowed by him was: 2000 10000 15000 20000

Q3) Priya borrowed some money at the rate of 6% per annum for the first 3yr, at the rate of 9% per annum for the next 5yr and at the rate of 13% per annum for the period beyond 8yr. Q4) How much time will it take for an amount of Rs. 450 to yield Rs Q4) How much time will it take for an amount of Rs. 450 to yield Rs. 81 as interest at 4.5% per annum of simple interest? 3.5 yrs 4 yrs 4.5 yrs 5 yrs

Q5)A sum of money invested for a certain number of years at 8% p. a Q5)A sum of money invested for a certain number of years at 8% p.a. simple interest grows to Rs.180. The same sum of money invested for the same number of years at 4% p.a. simple interest grows to Rs.120 only. For how many years was the sum invested? 25 15 20 22

Compound Interest Compound interest is the interest earned not only on the original principal, but also on all interests earned previously Let Principal = P, Rate = R% per annum, Time = n years. When interest is compounded Annually: Amount=p(1+R/100)^n 2. When interest is compounded Half-yearly: Amount=p[1+(R/2)/100]^2n 3. When interest is compounded Quarterly: Amount=p[1+(R/4)/100]^4n

4.Difference between SI and CI for 2 years is P(R/100)^2 Difference between SI and CI for 3 years is 3P(R/100)^2 + P(R/100)^3

Q6)The compound interest on Rs. 30,000 at 7% per annum is Rs. 4347 Q6)The compound interest on Rs. 30,000 at 7% per annum is Rs. 4347. The period (in years) is: 2 3 4 5

Q8)What will be the compound interest (approx. ) on a sum of Rs Q8)What will be the compound interest (approx.) on a sum of Rs. 25,000 after 3 years at the rate of 12 % p.a.? 9000 9720 10123 10483

Q9) The compound interest on a sum of money for 2 years is rs Q9) The compound interest on a sum of money for 2 years is rs.832 and the simple interest on the same sum for the same period is rs.800 .the difference between the compound interest and simple interest for 3 years is 48 66.56 98.56 None
