Synopsis My documentary is going to be about Internet fame and social media and the effect it has on young people. I will primarily focus on Instagram fame. This is going to include topics such as bullying , body image , promotion and ads , bloggers and how it effects the people around them . I'm going to explore the positive and negative responses to social media using research and interviews. My target audience will be 15-25 year olds. I have chosen this age range because they are the most likely to be highly active on social media and will be able to relate more than 60+ year olds. I think with the wide variety of age I will be able to explore the different effects in different stages of people's lives. I will explore this topic using a variety of formats including interviews and voice over's. I will also use related archive footage and statistics/facts.

‘What about Instagram finally spoke to you?’ Influences https://player.vimeo.com/video/86023743 ‘What about Instagram finally spoke to you?’ 'I liked that anybody in the world could see my photo if they wanted to. I liked seeing the notification that all my friends saw the photo. I liked waking up with a bunch of notifications. It turned into a competition for me. It became "who could get the most followers or the most likes." I started competing with my friends, I guess you could say.'
Legal and Ethical Issues Whilst interviewing people I will ensure to be sensitive to peoples stories. I will also protect the confidentiality of the interviewee's and if they don't want me to include a certain part of the interview then I won't. I will also make sure I have permission to film on any locations I go to. Location Recce I will film most of the interviews at my house and at some interviewee’s houses. Some people I’m interviewing are from America so will be filming their interviews on a camera for me so that I can get a wider variety of opinions from my questions.
Equipment and Crew List Production Schedule Pitch-7th April Most of my filming will take place in half term. Make updates to pre –production – 10th April Production and Editing ( post –production ) – 10th April-24th May Equipment and Crew List DSLR , Tripod I’m doing this project independently so I will be directing and editing the production but Michaela may help me out occasionally so that I get a higher quality of film.
Survey Results 60% of the people asked were 16-20 which is useful as my target audience is from that age group. 100% of people asked use Facebook which is followed by 77% using Instagram.
Survey Results Selfies were the most uploaded type of photo people post online with 38%.This helps me because It links to my self image and seeking validation topic. Asking people what they considered internet fame was interesting as most people assumed YouTuber's as the prime place of internet famous people. I also got responses such as 'pretty people' which shows they get followed purely because of their appearance in their photos. People also said that they will get recognised in public and people will be familiar with their name.
Social Media Impacts Depression and self conscious and searching for validation from fans. Discovering self esteem Think and thin love- You can't have 50 BFFs . (the way internet users use ‘love’ and the differences from reality.) The use of hashtags Competitiveness False sense of connection Is it leading to the downfall of our society by not living in the moment and living through a phone with no real life relationships? It's a form of escapism? Explore the theme of loneliness and the communities online Extra footage: Is it taking over television? How much money do people make? Money and promoting/ads- Lying to the audience?
Cyber Bullying Statistics i-Safe foundation: -Over 50% of adolescents and teens have been bullied online. 50% have also engaged in cyber bullying. 1 in 5 people have experienced cyber threats. Cyber bullying research centre did surveys which found these statistics: -Over 80% of teens use a mobile phone regularly which makes it the most common form of cyber bullying. -Girls are at least as likely as boys to be cyber bullies or victims. -Boys are more likely to be threatened by cyber bullies than girls. -more than 72% of internet users are active on social media. Cyber bullies primarily focus on appearance which is interesting as internet famous people tend to primarily post photos of themselves on social media which therefore heightens the risk of cyber bullying.
