EARLY SENIOR YEAR TO DO LIST – COLLEGE Register for the ACT and/or SAT Begin or continue your college/career search Schedule college visits now Organize application materials and set aside time to apply online. What do you need to apply? Common App, Direct to College, Coalition App? Ask for letters of recommendation early Are you applying Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision? Know the difference! WATCH YOUR DEADLINES!!!!
EARLY SENIOR YEAR TO DO LIST - MILITARY Contact a local recruiter in the branch you want to enlist in – all contact information can be found at local recruiting stations and the Hayes Counseling Office Discuss all career/training options within the branch of service along with benefits Take the ASVAB – this is available to all students, not just those planning for a military career Request all high school records required by the recruiter – the recruiter will often take care of this.
NAVIANCE! You have your own online account where you can: Your username is your school email and your password is 12345678. Research colleges and keep lists of those you like. College fairs: Kiwanis College Fair @ COSI on 9/25/17 & MTC College Fair 9/27/17. More details to come! Complete your Senior Brag Sheet in Naviance. Communicate with Mrs. Pollard and list her as your counselor on your applications. ALERT HER WHEN AN APPLICATION IS SENT! Keep track of deadlines. Have your teachers upload letters of recommendation for your applications in to Naviance. You MUST use Naviance – this is the online system we use to submit documentation to colleges. You will have a training in August/September to build your college list, complete surveys, and learn to request transcripts and letters of recommendation!
COLLEGES VISITING HAYES Throughout the year, many colleges send representatives to high schools to visit with potential students. You are invited! There are several colleges already scheduled to visit Hayes…sign up in Naviance! 1. Log In to Naviance 2. Click the Colleges tab 3. Click view all upcoming college visits 4. Click Sign Up for any of the visits
FINANCIAL AID One year at OSU Main Campus will cost about $25,000 for tuition, room, board, books, fees, and misc. expenses; OSU at Marion will cost about $8,000 for tuition, books, and fees. What is your plan to fund college? Loans – must submit the FAFSA to be eligible (opens online 10/1/17) Scholarships – must apply by deadlines Grants – must submit the FAFSA to be eligible Work Study – must submit the FAFSA to be eligible
