Italian, German and Japanese Surrender The End of World War II Italian, German and Japanese Surrender

Mussolini On April 27th 1945, the Allies captured Benito Mussolini in Milan. He was executed the next day by Italian partisans.

Following his execution, along with the executions of other Italian Fascist leaders, the Fascist Italian forces surrendered on April 29th 1945.

Meanwhile, the Battle of Berlin raged in Germany…

Hitler’s Suicide With the Battle of Berlin happening on the streets of Berlin, Hitler hid in his underground bunker with his mistress and new bride, Eva Braun. Fearing that he would be publically executed like Mussolini, on the 30th April 1945 Hitler shot himself, and his wife ingested a lethal dose of poison.

Right up until the end of his life, Hitler had blamed the Jews for the war.

The Battle of Berlin ended on May 2nd 1945, followed by an Unconditional Surrender by the German Leaders.

Japan Japan was the last Axis Power to surrender to the Allies. On the 6th August the USA dropped a uranium atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing and injuring 140,000 people. On the 9th August, the USA dropped a plutonium atomic bomb on Nagasaki, with similarly shocking effects.

On the 15th August 1945, Japan surrendered, indicating the end of World War II.
