PowerPoint Presentation for Family Finding: Follow up on Supports

Competency 207-4: The Child Welfare Professional can use assessment data to collaboratively develop an appropriate, culturally competent case plan with the family, and can develop and link supportive family and community resources.

Learning Objectives Participants will be able to: Identify how the Family Finding model supports casework best practice and child welfare legislation and guidance. Put into action the Family Finding model and related techniques.

Parts One though Five Review What are the six steps of the Family Finding model? What are the best practice steps to work within the confines of assuring confidentiality? What are the goals of a Blended Perspectives Meeting? What are the goals of the Family Finding Decision Making step?

Parts One though Five Review (cont’d) What are some of the benefits of using Family Group Decision Making as Family Finding’s Decision Making Step? What are Kevin Campbell’s six Key Evaluation Questions? What are other evaluation considerations?

Step Six: Follow up on Supports Goal: The team will have supported the child or young person and their family to plan for and access essential formal and informal support.   Source: Campbell, Kevin. Family Finding: Workshop Presented by Kevin Campbell.

Step Six: Follow up on Supports (cont’d)  Practice:  The team will actively support children, young people, and caregivers to successfully access services, supports and key relationships. Teams will emphasize natural and community supports that are the most normative and enduring. Services that require payment will be seen as temporary and not as a basis for lifelong relationships. Source: Campbell, Kevin. Family Finding: Workshop Presented by Kevin Campbell.

A Key Concept When working with families a key concept is to build self-sufficiency. The family has to have the ability to locate, access, and use their support system to ensure the young person’s safety and meet his/her life needs while involved with the agency but especially afterward. A major component of creating self-sufficiency is assisting the family in building their capacity to monitor their efforts to implement the plans they created and their progress.

Closing the Case The current plan (A, B, or C) is functioning well. The Network for Life has offered and exhibited lifelong commitment. The Network for Life members understand their roles and responsibilities. The Network for Life knows what services and resources are available. The Network for Life knows how to access those services and resources.

Step Six: Follow up on Supports (revisited) Goal: The team will have supported the child or young person and their family to plan for and access essential formal and informal support.   Source: Campbell, Kevin. Family Finding: Workshop Presented by Kevin Campbell.
