Imagery in Literature Imagery consists of the words or phrases that evoke sensory impressions in the reader
It contributes to the richness of the work because it appeals to our imagination
Imagery can help us find new levels of emotional depth and meaning in any literary work (McKeague 163).
Think of the five senses and the types of images that appeal to each one.
How does imagery help you see the work in your imagination? Imagery affects the atmosphere or mood.
Imagery can help the writer produce a particular emotional effect in the reader. help readers relate better to the theme of the work.
In almost every work where imagery is an important element:
the theme becomes more vivid and more real for us as we respond to the sensory impressions conveyed through the images (McKeague 166-67).
