Codes and conventions of film posters By marwan Khan

Content The content of the poster for it is that there is a clown that is haunting a town, a group of children try to stop him and by doing that one of the main characters brother gets killed by the clown and that’s where the story begins this poster is also a horror based film. The content of the poster alien is that there is a group of people that going to space looking for a new planet to the school and by doing that they stumble across a alien that tries to take control over their bodies and kill them and the main character tried to count though the poster is also a horrid based.

Written language Written language that is used in the post that it shows the tone of the poster is the colour red when the clown is holding the balloon and also when the text it coloured in red for the movie name read symbol of danger and horror. The slogan that is used in the poster reads you”ll float to that the film is a horror. The written language that is used in the poster alien shows that the tone of the poster and the movie is a horror movie it also tells us that the slogan in space no one can hear you scream also shows us that it’s a horror film and it invlodes space. The colour green shows that it’s his extra terrestrial and out of this world.

Typography That artist has considered this convention of the text to be small and for the word IT to be massive and bold to show us at the film is called it and the theme of the poster is horrible because we can clearly see that the word it is red on a black background it says the theme of the genre perfectly because it has the same colour scheme as to the balloon that the clowng is hoilding. The artist for the poster alein has also considered that the front of the word alien is spaced out and right on the top so we can clearly see what the name of the film is called and what it is going to be about. The small phrase that we can see on the bottom of the egg hatching says in space no one can hear you scream matches what you can’t hear anyone in space scream with a black background and green The theme is matched to the genre perfectly in the poster because it gives the theme eerie vibe.

Photograph and illustration The photographs and illustrations of the poster for it is a clown holding a red balloon and a child in front of the clown wearing a yellow rain coat and has it back towards us and with a black smoky background showing the clown emerging from the smoke these images are picked for the poster pacifically show us what is going to happen to that point with the other.would be clown and the whole city where there are children that he wants to take. The composition of where two characters in the film at least is directly in the middle so they can show us and the two characters. photographs and illustrations for the poster is a black background with a grey egg and emerging from the craked egg is green light with green smoke The image was picked for the poster pacifically in the middle of the poster and the writing on the top and on the bottom.the compositions of the egg is all about the movie and the main focus of the poster.

Representation the poster IT is there is a clown that is holding a red balloon and his head is behind us.the Character Pennywise the clown is basically representing darkness and a murderer and the boy Georgie with the yellow raincoat represents a victim of the clown . Pennywise is seen as darkness that is the form of a creature as a clown and Georgie is seen as innocent boy that is a victim of the dancing clown. For the poster alien there is no characters but an object checked is an egg that has been cracked and it’s peeking out a green light and green smoke the object is seen as a beginning of a new life of an alien.

colour scheme The colour scheme for the poster alien is one single individual colour that is prominent in the poster and that is green green and black as background individual colours that are also primary colour to .The colour are linked with the theme of horror because black is dark colour and green is a sign of mysternd and alien. The colour scheme of the poster it involves two individual colours that are red and yellow that show up in the poster .The colour red and yellow are too similar colours that show in the colour spectrum as red been the darkest colour and yellow being politest this two colours link to the theme of horror.

Comparing 20th and 21 When looking at the two posters and the poster alien there is a huge difference away that it is designed for the graphics are way more high resolution and have pictures of what the film is about. But for the alien poster there is only a picture of an egg cracked open and it’s low resolution image and the background is very simple but in the 20th century when the film came out they didn’t have the best technology and artist to create a great high resolution image for the poser Marketing for the poster it says coming soon to cinema and it also has links to the studio that it is made from and when it going to be released and for the poster alien there is way more marketing and advertising because it has all the names of the characters the date it’s going to be released with production company was it made from and the day when it’s going to be released. There is a lot more content for the poster Alien then their is for the poster it.

Alternate poster The posters that I have chosen are to alternate posters and they are Robocop For the poster Robocop the terms of the content/narrative of the poster is basically explaining how a officer turned into a robot and the whole story is based on a robot cop and how did you create the alternate posters is by illustrating their design on a poster and influence the original poster but in a illustrations their poster.
