MONDAY OCTOBER 23RD WTRFG 11-13

Journal activity Today, I am grateful for…. What are your general academic goals? Now, remember that goals need to be “s.m.a.r.t”: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely Now, set some “smart” goals for the second quarter (by Christmas). Ideas: I would like to be reading at a ____ grade level by Christmas I would like to get all a’s and b’s on my next report card I would like take 20 minutes a week to stay organized I want to only speak in class when I am called on …

What coon hunting actually looks like This video is a little graphic. If you would rather not see how the racoon is hunted and killed, you may put your head down or step out for a moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fo3Le7k1kE

PLOT SUMMARY OVERVIEW CHAPTER XI (ELEVEN): Billy continues to describe different hunting experiences. In this one, Little Ann gets stuck in the icy river. Billy wades out and saves her, risking his own life. Billy feels hopeless and prays again, saying, “I promised all the things that a young boy could if only He would help me.” Billy gets sick from being out in the cold water

More summary Chapter xii (twelve): Billy’s fame and his dog’s success becomes widely known and his grandpa brags on him. The Pritchard boys get under grandpa’s skin and he agrees to make a bet with them. He bets that Billy and his dogs will be able to tree the “ghost coon”. They are obviously not very nice or kind people They Pritchard boys are real jerks the whole time Billy is hunting and keep trying to change what they bet is The Pritchard boys keep trying to get Billy to quit, but he is determined and so are his dogs! Old Dan bark as if they have the ghost coon “treed” and they all go to see

Plot summary continued Chapter XIII (thirteen): billy scours the tree but they can’t find the coon. Little ann catches the scent of the coon; he is in a nearby post! Billy gets him out and the dogs tree him after a chase. Out of mercy and respect for the old coon, Billy lets him live. The Pritchard boys are total jerks about it, threaten to beat up Billy and pin him down. While this is happening, Old Dan begins to fight the Pritchard's dog. Little Ann even gets involved to help out her buddy Dan. Rubin Pritchard takes Billy’s axe and starts off like he is going to use it on Billy’s dogs.

Read aloud Pg. 128 – This is a little graphic but this is a huge moment in the book.
