What is happening in Darfur? Darfur in Sudan What is happening in Darfur? For the last 13 years, genocide has been taking place in Darfur which has seen hundreds of thousands of people killed and millions of people forced from their homes

Key terms and information Darfur in Sudan Key terms and information In Darfur, government soldiers are fighting against rebels and local tribes. They are trying to destroy black African tribes just because of who they are. This is genocide Genocide is when a group of people are targeted for destruction just because of who they are, such as their race or their religion. This has happened in many countries around the world The government soldiers are working with local militia called the Janjaweed (meaning ‘devils on horseback’) The Janjaweed have attacked and burned hundreds of villages and killed thousands of people
