A Blender 3D Modeling Project Swift Kicks 3D Shoebox A Blender 3D Modeling Project

Math Concepts Covered Area 3D Geometry Coordinate Systems Students will calculate area and resize a cube using specific dimensions. They will use the grid in the Blender interface to count squares tiles and multiply the length times with of their cube. Using Blender’s zoom, pan and rotate controls, students will have access to 3 dimensions of a cube. Students will also be able to change the geometry of the cube using the scale manipulator tool. All coordinate systems in Blender are based on a grid consisting of three axis. Students will learn to use the translate manipulator tool to navigate the Blender coordinate system.

Blender Concepts Covered Transformation Manipulator Widgets Perspective & View X, Y, and Z Axis The Transformation manipulator widgets allow mouse controlled translation, rotation and scaling in the 3D View. While working in Blender students will be able to change their viewpoint as well as the viewing direction of the scene. Students will learn to scale a cube and move along the x, y and z axis using the transformation widgets.

Sample Lesson 1 Part 3 – Using Blender

In previous lessons students learned how to use the 3 button mouse to pan, zoom and rotate objects in Blender.

Sample Lesson 1 Part 3 – The Job

Create a Shoe Box Bottom From a Cube The Client’s Specs Students must use the manipulator tools to make the area of the box bottom 32” square. In the lessons to follow students will use additional math concepts to create the box top. Decorative design elements will be added using the Blender tools.
