New York Yankees’ Fundraiser Event Planner: Elizah Morales

Event Details Why: The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about childhood obesity, which has become a huge concern in our society with more than one-third of American children being classified as overweight. Also, to raise money for better gym equipment and playgrounds selected public schools in New York City. Who: Hosting: New York Yankees Co Sponsors: Pinkberry, and Subway What: Fundraising Event When: May 9th, 2015 Where: Yankee Stadium in The Bronx (Steak House)

Why do the Yankees Care? For over 50 years the New York Yankees have been promoting healthy living for children of all ages. Being active and eating right are important aspects for children to stay focus in school and live a long fulfilled life. The public schools surrounding Yankee Stadium have been known to lack gym equipment and well-developed playgrounds, therefore, as good neighbors the Yankees want to raise money to help the children and schools in their community and other NYC public schools. GOALS: Raise $500,000 Bring awareness to the issue

Sponsors Pinkberry and Subway are both two organizations that stand for healthy living, especially, for children. A percentage of their revenue made on May 9th, 2015 will be donated to The New York Yankees’ Fundraising Event to Support Healthy Living Amongst Children for new gym equipment and playgrounds.

Guest Speakers Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio New York Yankee Player Derek Jeter

Event Schedule 7:00pm – Start Time 7:30pm – Networking begins and food is served 8:00pm – Mayor Bill de Blasio makes his speech 8:15pm – Derek Jeter makes his speech 8:30pm – Photos are taken 9:00pm – Children perform 9:45pm – Fundraiser begins 10:15pm – Giveaways are announced and Health Treasure Hunt Game begins 10:45pm – Wrap up

Pre-Event Promote on Child Health Day (October 5, 2015) Get Derek Jeter and Mayor Bill de Blasio to publicize the event on talk shows and radio interviews. Create a contest where the top ten teachers who promote healthy living in their classrooms get a free ticket to the fundraiser. Create a website and social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) with health facts including activities that children can partake in to stay healthy. Create/send Invitations Create flyers and posters to hang at schools Contact public schools that want to participant in the event. Contact Philanthropists to donate to the event and its cause Get local media coverage to attend event, including News 12 The Bronx.

Day of Event Create a hangtag contest #NYYHEALTHYLIVING Health Treasure Hunt Game for adult and the few children who attend. Have guests take photos with Mayor Bill de Blasio and Alex Rodriguez Giveaway Seasonal Yankee Tickets Basket filled with Yankee gear Signed baseball from all the current Yankee players Gift cards to Pinkberry and Subway Students will perform by singing and dancing with shirts that highlight the Yankees’ support for healthy living for children

Post-Event Send souvenirs to guest including Tee-Shirts and water bottle. Send surveys to guest and reward them with a discounted dinner at the NYY Steak house that offers a healthy way to eat steak. Have students write personal thank you cards Send a report of how much money was raised at the event and the impact the event made on others.
