Presentation transcript:

In the front of your books, leave the first two lines and… List any laws that you would be prepared to break and an example of when you would be prepared to break them. Eg. I would assault a burglar to stop them hurting my family

2.8 A Taxing Question Describe the incident where Jesus is questioned about paying taxes. Explain Jesus’ response How can you give to God what is God’s How is this important to Christians today? (Consider community cohesion)

Tithing Tithing is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were to give 10 percent of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle/Temple. Some understand the Old Testament tithe as a method of taxation to provide for the needs of the priests and Levites in the sacrificial system. The New Testament nowhere commands, or even recommends, that Christians submit to a legalistic tithe system. Paul states that believers should set aside a portion of their income in order to support the church

2.8 A Taxing Question Read pages 48 and 49 Complete activity 2 . Why did this event lead to conflict? (8) Complete activity 5

Conflict They were looking for conflict He made them look foolish Pharisees and Herodians are working together. This shows how much they already hated Jesus He is saying that they should pay taxes Some may be confused by this and argue

Bonheoffer German Lutheran pastor, theologian, dissident anti-Nazi, and founding member of the Confessing Church. Bonhoeffer became known for his staunch resistance to the Nazi dictatorship. He strongly opposed Hitler's euthanasia program and persecution of the Jews. He was also involved in plans by members of the Abwehr (the German Military Intelligence Office) to assassinate Adolf Hitler. He was arrested in April 1943 by the Gestapo and executed by hanging in April 1945 while imprisoned at a Nazi concentration camp, just 23 days before the German surrender.
