Homework See Homework Policy – Grove website Reading – at least 3 times a week at length - reading and library books Spellings – practised 3 times a week at home - look, cover, spell, check, rainbow writing, etc. Maths – number facts/times tables consolidation (practise 3 times a week) - reinforcement of class work (once a week) English – reinforcement of class work (once a week)
Homework Topic Choice – four times a half term Maths homework is given out on a Wednesday and is due back in the following Monday. English homework is given out on a Friday and is due back in the following Wednesday. Homework supports the work being done at school and children should be able to complete work at home independently. Homework will increase over the course of the year. Year 6 children have diaries to support the transition to secondary school.
Reading Most children will read to an adult once every two weeks in addition to their reciprocal reading session each week. The amount a children reads will depend on their reading ability. We also encourage children to read at home at least 3 times a week. Please encourage your child to read at home.
Attendance Attendance is crucial in Year 6. If your child is absent from school for any reason, please contact the school, giving a reason for their absence. Please follow this up with a letter when your child returns to school.
Parent Support Water Bottles Please ensure children have a complete PE kit and that PE kit’s are clearly labelled including each plimsoll. We would also ask that you label coats, jumpers, jackets and lunch boxes with a permanent marker along with your child’s class. Please provide your child with an art apron (an old shirt.) Water Bottles The school has a policy that children bring water bottles to school and are encouraged to drink water throughout the day. Please ensure your child has a water bottle and praise them for drinking during the school day.
