University of South Carolina Located in Columbia, South Carolina 35,000+ students on the Columbia Campus Nearly 6,000 in the 2017 freshman class SD 8 Campuses in the System 16 schools/colleges on the Columbia campus

In his words, USC “has re-engineered the academic year so that we teach all twelve months. Now, students don’t have to take an annual summer sabbatical. Instead, they can accelerate their path to graduation, saving time and money.” Dr. Harris Pastides – 2015 State of the University Address SD USC has made steady progress since 2009 in the area of freshmen retention. We have instituted many programs (Award Winning U101 Program) and services to help students succeed, but there is more that can be done – this is where On Your Time plays a role.

Dr. Harris Pastides – 2017 State of the University Address “We have put a formal and strategic action plan in place aimed at reducing debt. We call it On Your Time. And it’s paying off. You know about it by now but let me remind you that On Your Time seeks to significantly reduce the major reason for student debt…extra and unnecessary tuition for semesters that go beyond the traditional eight...The move is already garnering results with more summer registrations than ever before.” Dr. Harris Pastides – 2017 State of the University Address AT OYT reports to the Provost’s Office In unique position to provide support and partnership to all academic units on campus Have the ability to hire instructors and put classes on the schedule

First-Year Retention SD USC has made steady progress since 2009 in the area of freshmen retention. We have instituted many programs (Award Winning U101 Program) and services to help students succeed, but there is more that can be done – this is where On Your Time plays a role.

Graduation Rates 66.3! SD We’re excited about the preliminary data on our most recent increases in both 4 and 6 year graduation rates Looking forward to seeing how our initiatives continue to play a role in this improvement

The Office of On Your Time Initiatives supports a variety of courses and programs that help students get ahead, catch up, or stay on track for degree completion.

Building a Stronger Summer Semester Restructured to promote ease of scheduling a full course load Scheduling classes needed for retention & progression No classes on Fridays – used for student support services Summer tuition for a full load matches that of Fall and Spring AT So, specifically What is On Your Time? What did we do to improve Summer 2017?

SD USC has made steady progress since 2009 in the area of freshmen retention. We have instituted many programs (Award Winning U101 Program) and services to help students succeed, but there is more that can be done – this is where On Your Time plays a role.

SD OYT gave the Provost specific details by college on enrollments and tuition revenue (compared from 2016 to 2017), and she shared with them one by one. At USC, colleges keep their summer tuition revenue (unlike fall/spring), so there’s a growing interest in scheduling courses.

Full Summer Session (3S0) May June July August Full Summer Session (3S0) May 14 – August 2 9-week Session (3S6) June 4 – August 2 6-week Session I (3S1) May 14 – June 21 3-week Session I (3S3) May 14 – May 31 3-week Session III (3S5) June 25 – July 12 3-week Session II (3S4) June 4 – June 20 6-week Session II (3S2) June 25 – August 2 SD Our Summer 2018 schedule was announced on Sept 18, and we had offices calling us months in advance for the details so that they could plan accordingly.
