SUBJECT (Week 15) Date: 21 – 25 Nov 2016 Room 111 – W. Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 5 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 4 & 6 B-Read Math Triumphs Math Intervention Period 3 DO NOW ACTIVITY Use your flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary being used in this math lesson. Make the Story Problem organizer and highlight a problem you wish to share with the class. Use flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary that you are presently using in this Science lesson. Make flash cards that show how to divide fractions. LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE SWBAT evaluate expressions involving calculating parts of parts and multiplying mixed numbers using academic vocabulary: product, generic triangle, area, fraction, multiplication, decimals and mixed number fraction. Students will know that most earthquakes occur at plate boundaries when rocks break and move along faults using academic vocabulary: liquefaction and tsunami. Students will perform calculations and solve problems involving simple division of fraction using the academic vocabulary: quotient, dividend, and divisor. STANDARDS By the end of the week, students will be able to evaluate a mathematical expression for a given situation, using knowledge to predict the size of the product and multiplying fractions without needing to draw a diagram. By the end of the week, students will know how to determine the epicenter of an earthquake and know that the effects of an earthquake on any region vary, depending on the size of the earthquake, the distance from epicenter, and building structure. By the end of the week, students will be able to solve problems involving division of positive fractions. ESSENTIAL QUESTION How can you represent a portion of a whole without drawing a diagram? Why is it important to know the various hazards from earthquakes? How do you divide fractions? HOMEWORK Do CPM Section 5.1.3 to 5.1.4, pages 217 to 224, problems 5-18 to 5-38. Your Thanksgiving assignment will be to complete this work and the worksheet given to you on adding and subtracting decimals. Make the foldable on page 243. Copy the Target your Reading on page 245 and answer all questions. Copy and answer questions 1 to 8, page 278. Copy Week 16 Academic vocabulary. Copy and answer questions 1 to 43, pages 27 to 31. Do Examples 1, 2, and 3 Your Turn on pages 25 and 26. TEST Your test will be two worksheet requiring you to add and subtract decimals and integers. You will need to master this skill to do the next section. Your test will be questions 1 to 12 on page 288 and 289. Your test will be Progress Check 2, problems 1 to 14, page 32. SPECIAL EVENTS This Thanksgiving assignment will be graded on Monday, 28 Nov 2016. Extra credit: Make a working Seismograph and show how it works. I check all Thanksgiving assignments on Monday, 28 Nov 2016.
