WHY TAKE NOTES. Let’s take a look… https://www. youtube. com/watch

Creating Note Cards!

Important info that may save your life! Use one side of the card only. Exhibit A: This is only one side

Write the letter of the source in the upper left corner. Please include the page number of where you found the information on the bottom right corner. Put a subtitle in the top center of your card. Exhibit B: Tada! A Biographical Pg. 42

Mrs. Katkich loves bulldogs. Make only one note per card (important information only please!). Exhibit C: If that’s not important, I don’t know what is! A Biographical Mrs. Katkich loves bulldogs. Pg. 42

I know what you’re thinking… Piece of cake! That’s all there is to it right? WRONG!

3 Techniques in Note Taking Are you ready?

Paraphrasing Rewriting what the author said. Think of it as translating. **Use with specific details. **Length should be the same as the author’s. Bonjour! Hello!

Summary Putting the author’s ideas into your own words. Moving what the author said … … And taking it in your direction. **Summarize a page or a paragraph. **Write only the main ideas.

Quotation Copying the exact words of the author. **Length and punctuation are exactly the same. **Use “quotation marks.” **Use quotations sparingly! Only if something is worded perfectly to emphasize a point.
