Assist and, where appropriate The ARCC co-ordinate its resources - which are signatories to SASAR in terms of Annex 12 to the Chicago Convention and by MOU between the Department of Transport and the SAR Units, to Search for – Assist and, where appropriate Effect a rescue operation for survivors of aircraft crashes, forced landings and in flight emergencies.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT/FIRE AND RESCUE   The Provincial Disaster Management Committees shall be responsible for: Ensuring that their command centres act as alerting posts; Making their communication channels available when required during a SAR and Medevac operation; Providing and supplying emergency services, crews, vehicles and vessels when necessary during a SAR operation;

GUIDANCE FOR FIRST RESPONDERS It is important to prevent unauthorised people from entering accident sites. Ensure that bystanders are kept outside established zones and upwind if possible. This is due to the need to ensure: - Respect for the victims. Protection for valuable and important or classified equipment. Preservation of evidence to establish the factors that contributed to the accident in terms of ICAO Annex13. Minimisation of exposure to hazards.

HOW CAN WE OPERATE IN SYNERGY Training – specifically non-aviation fire fighters Common Procedures and a published notification structure Trauma – how do we take care of ourselves and our colleagues? Combined safety attitude in terms of safety to first responders versus the dangers at accident sites. New technology.
