Was the Spanish conquest genocide? I think that the Spanish conquest was Genocide for three reasons. One, because they killed all the people at that mission which was a group of people. Two, because they did not care about the negative affects on the natives, and lastly that it is like Bartolomé de Las Casas when he was standing up for the Indians because the Jesuits were standing up for the natives. By: Joseph Forsyth Definition: the act of purposely killing or getting rid of a group of people connected by religion, language, land or history.

Main Point 1 When the Spanish decided to force the natives to leave the mission and go back into the jungle the natives did not agree and stood up for themselves. When the Spanish troops came the natives began to fight back. The Spanish were too powerful and it ended up being a blood bath. The natives were slaughtered. Tis to me is genocide because the natives were a group of people connected by a religion, language, land and history. Definition: the act of purposely killing or getting rid of a group of people connected by religion, language, land or history.

Main point 2 When the Spanish slaughtered the natives from the missions they did not think about the negative impact on the natives. The relationship between the Spanish and the natives would never be the same since only some of the children escaped into he jungle. Those children would not be able to live the normal life that others in the tribe used to live. The Spanish were not thinking in the long run and that is why it affected the natives so negatively. Definition: the act of purposely killing or getting rid of a group of people connected by religion, language, land or history.

Main Point 3 When the Spanish were trying to take away the natives the Jesuits were standing up for the natives. That is a lot like what Bartolomé de Las Casas did. Although they were killed they were standing up for the people because they believed that the natives were not animals but intact should be equal. Definition: the act of purposely killing or getting rid of a group of people connected by religion, language, land or history.
