Feasts of Unleavened bread (Lev 23.6-7, Exo 12.15-20) Lev 23.6-8 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. 7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein….  FEAST without YEAST.

Passover & feast of unleavened bread are special feasts 1) These two feasts were established in Egypt (Exo 12) 2) Only in these two feasts it was required to eat unleavened bread  (Exo 12.8, 13.7) 3) Only these two feasts were very closely linked These feasts are mentioned together many times (Mt 26.17, Mk 14.12, Luke 22.1, Exo 12, Deut 16.2-3) Feast of unleavened bread starts immediately (15th - 21st day) after Passover Passover speaks about our salvation, whereas the feast of unleavened bread speaks about our separation (holy life) N.

2) Problems of the leaven 1) Prime focus of this feast 2) Problems of the leaven 3) Put away the leaven 4) Purge out the leaven 5) Prophetic fulfillment of this feast.

I) Prime focus of this feast Exo 12.15-20 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. 16And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. 17And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever. 18In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. 19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. 20Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread. unleavened leaven leavened unleavened unleavened leaven leavened leavened unleavened In the feast of Passover, lamb was the center point (main focus) N What do we mean by leaven? Hebrew word Chametz, means sour Leaven is also known as yeast or baking powder, which is used for making bakery products (cakes, bread).

II) Problems of the leaven In Bible leaven is often used to refer evil/sin because of it’s problems (negative character) 1) Leaven spreads (multiply) rapidly (Gal 5.9, 1 Cor 5.6) Gal 5.9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump (1 Cor 5.6 also) If we mix little leaven in the dough, it spreads (expand) rapidly and multiply. Just like Amoeba Similarly sin is never confined to a single place Rom 5.12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned Rom 3.23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God No one has escaped from this sin.

II) Problems of the leaven 2) Leaven makes the dough sour and . changes dough’s nature Initially dough is not sour, but once leaven is mixed, it makes the dough sour Sin also makes a man’s life unsavory As soon as Adam & Eve sinned they recognized that they are naked (Gen 3.7-8) Gen 3.7-8 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

II) Problems of the leaven 3) Leaven puffs the whole dough and . takes control Leaven reacts chemically and releases CO2 gas, so the dough puffs Also when the leaven comes in contact with the dough, it takes it’s whole control. N Similarly sin takes control of man and he becomes helpless Neh 9.37 And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress. John 8.34 …Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin Rom 6.20 For when ye were the servants of sin.

II) Problems of the leaven 4) Leaven leads the dough . towards decay Once the leaven is mixed with dough, the decay begins rapidly Sin is the main cause of man’s destruction God said to Adam if you eat (sin) you shall surely die (Gen 2.17) Rom 5.12 …and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.

III) Put away the leaven BEdikat CHAMETZ Exo 12.15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel Before the feast of unleavened bread begin, Israelites had a tradition of The search for leaven N This process teaches us that we should also search any type of sin in our life & put it away Before the ceremony begins, Israelite women used to hide 10 small pieces of leaven in their house This method teaches that, we will certainly find some leaven in our life provided that our search is proper (1 Jn 1.8-9, Pro 28.13).

IV) Purge out the leaven 1 Cor 5.7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened… Purge out the old leaven OT says, put away the leaven, and NT says purge out the old leaven Purge out the “old leaven” N Purge out….. it won’t go easily Purge out therefore the old leaven, (KJV) get rid of (NASB) clean out (NIV) It’s only possible by the grace of god Pslm 139.23,24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

X V) Prophetic fulfillment of this feast This feast instructs not to eat leavened bread but also asks to eat unleavened bread Not to eat any leaven product (Exo 12.15,19,20) Eat unleavened bread (Exo 15,18,20) X Who is this unleavened bread?
