Work at height.

Work at height – the risks. Biggest killer in industry (29% of all fatals). Since 2005 no more 6 foot/2 metre rule. The 2005 regulations require that work at height is “planned”. HSE is not out to “ban ladders”. Ladders and step ladders suitable for short duration work only.

Planning to work at height? Is it necessary? Can you prevent a fall likely to cause death or serious injury? Can you mitigate the effects of a fall? Can you arrest a fall?

The use of ladders and stepladders. Suitable for short duration work. Should be in good condition. Should be properly footed or braced/tied. Should only be used where there are three points of contact. Should be used with stability devices and stand offs.
