PSAT Training Session PSAT ____________

You must read your manual!!! This power point and quiz, while helpful, does not take the place of reading your Supervisor’s Manual! Please read the manual prior to the test administration.

PSAT Information for 2015 Testing Date: Wednesday, October 19, 2016 Testing Time: 3 hours plus approximately 30 minutes for administrative duties. Starting this year: Testing Room Codes can be issued for tracking irregularities. Read carefully: the placement of some fields on the answer sheets has changed. Students will copy and sign a statement acknowledging that they agree to the test regulations.

Before Test Day – If chosen to proctor Read & become familiar with your PSAT/NMSQT Supervisor’s Manual Pages 15-23 – Administering the test and directions (Script B)

Wednesday, October 19, 2016 All 10th graders plus any 9th and 11th graders who paid for the test are taking PSAT in their assigned testing classroom. All Seniors will be in an assembly in the FAC. Juniors not taking the PSAT will be taking the TSI in a computer lab. 9th graders not taking the PSAT will be participating in a Writing Workshop in their assigned classrooms.

Room Readiness: Be in your assigned room at 8:40 AM on Wednesday, October 19th to prepare testing room. Wait for students outside the room and do the following: 1. Tell students to use the restroom BEFORE coming in. 2. Make sure students don’t bring in any other items that do not relate to test (cell phones, back packs, etc.). Place in locker or at a specific location at back/front of room! 3. Check attendance sheet to verify student is in correct testing room 4. Students who arrive after you have completed the “Providing Information” section on the answer sheet will not be allowed in the testing room–NO EXCEPTIONS.

Test Day – Wednesday, October 19, 2016 Arrive to school early. Pick up materials: Upstairs A-243 8:00 - 8:35 a.m. Arrival of Students to room: First - assign the students a seat (all of them must face the same direction) & complete the attached seating chart on the back of the Supervisor’s Manual. Second - Highlight the student’s name if they are absent so attendance can be verified Passing out the tests/answer documents, personally hand them to each student (NO PASSING DOWN THE ROW). No one may open a test book until told to do so by you.

Administering Test: The redesigned test has 4 sections and each section is timed: Preadministration activities: 30 to 45 minutes (students will still be allowed in testing room) Reading Test: 60 minutes No longer than a 5 minute break Writing and Language Test: 35 minutes Math Test – No Calculator: 25 minutes Math Test – Calculator: 45 minutes Collecting materials: 5 minutes Bathroom breaks will be allowed, but students will only be able to leave one at a time and this will use their allotted time for the test. Scheduled breaks: 5 minutes after section 1; 5 minutes stretch after section 3.

Administering Test CONTINUED: Monitor students at ALL TIMES Walk around your area constantly No visitors in testing area Safeguard tests at ALL TIMES!!!!! When taking a break, please make sure you do not leave at the end of a testing session or when you are about to start another test section. The relief person is not the testing proctor!!!!

What student’s can have in testing area: Test Book Answer Document and Pencils (No Mechanical Pencils!) Math portion only! Must bring their own.

Calculator Use The Math portion of the PSAT is divided into two parts: Math Test – Calculator and Math Test – No Calculator. Students can bring their own scientific or graphing calculator – no sharing. List of approved calculators is listed in the Manual on page 31. NO OTHER DEVICES MAY BE USED! This includes any electronic device—cell phone, I-Pad, I-Pod, etc.

AFTER TESTING IS COMPLETE: Collect your student’s answer documents first & then collect the books (please group test booklets by their Math teachers name. It should be listed on the front of the booklet as well as their class period and grade level). Count the testing materials to make sure you have one answer sheet & one test book from every student. Confirm that all students filled in their grade level correctly on their answer sheets – not the grade they think they are in. Look at your attendance sheet to verify grade level. Talk to Blue if an Irregularity Report is needed. Turn in testing materials to A-243.
