Engaging & Inspiring our residents Keeping Wembley Tidy Chirag Gir
But why?
Our daily lives in and around Wembley April 19th – Norton Road/Lincoln Avenue Ealing Rd Businesses fly-tipping April 19th Garden Waste – May 3rd Eagle Rd May 24th Ealing Road Hillfield Avenue June 7th Caught red handed on Eagle Rd May 14th Rats having a field day on Scarle Road - April 26th Bath time on Norton Rd April 19th Veolia Again April 24th Bowrans Avenue Veolia Contributing to the problem April 26th Bowrans Avenue
What are our issues? Alcohol consumption on streets Anti social behaviour Overcrowding in rented accommodation Tenants are ill informed of their rights Confused about recycling, not enough bins Tenants are exploited by greedy landlords Veolia leaving bags on road for collection Changes to recycling and waste management policy by Brent Council Timed Collection abuse by businesses and residents on High Road/Ealing Road Introduction of charge for garden waste Charging for bulky waste Paan Spitting Unanswered complaints from Brent Council Waste Enforcement team, certain local councillors, council leaders and our MP No long term solution in littering problem – other councils actively issue on the spot fines for littering Damaged community spirit – longer term detriment to society well being Increase in crime due to deterioration of street care House prices 12% lower in areas with dumping/litter problem
We call on Brent Council to implement the following 5 point plan to clean up Wembley We call on Brent Council to put in place measures which prevent rubbish being dumped on our streets and to fully publicise what these measures are. We call on Brent Council to strongly enforce existing laws and regulations against those who litter, those who dump rubbish/fly-tip and those who do not manage their waste properly on private land. We call on Brent Council to raise awareness of this problem, stressing that it will no longer be tolerated, through an education program including posters and leafleting, whilst engaging with local landlords, businesses, schools, colleges and places of worship. We call on Brent Council to pro-actively combat the effects of recent multi-occupancy housing on the existing local community. Each landlord licence would generate £400 per property. This income must be invested to regulate and enforce regulations We call on Brent Council to issue financial penalties against Veolia where the service fails to meet the required standard.
