BE THE CHANGE HUNTCLIFF SCHOOL

Identifying the problem The litter pollution in our school is insane, and our goal is to clear up the litter and then stop it from coming back. Students of Huntcliff school play amongst litter all day and we want to help clear up our school yards so that we don’t have to grimace at the trash of others. Here are some` videos of our school yard to show you how much litter people have to cope with.

We have search every nook and cranny of our minds to find these ideas to reduce litter in our community. We have realised that in our yards there are two bins which are used as goal posts so we have decided to turn the bins into real goal posts by adding posts onto the bins. If you do not like football but prefer basket ball then this is the idea for you, we will create a basket ball hoop but in stead of a net there will be a bin bag. This way we are clearing the community of litter and keeping fit. If you aren’t much of a sporty person then there is a solution. Enter the score bin, the score bin is a table with multiple wholes in it with bins underneath to catch any falling rubbish. Each whole is worth different amount of points, for example the plastic bottle whole is worth 20 points etcetera, etcetera. Near the bin there will also be a score board were you will record your score, the person with the most points at the end of the week is given a certificate.

OUR DESIGN

WHERE DO WE THINK OUR IDEAS WILL WORK BEST. We have noticed the amount of rubbish on our play grounds is rising, but not as much on the streets this is why we think that it is children who litter most so we will install the bins on the play ground first and if the idea works we will expand them to the public. We will record data for a couple of months until we either think the idea is working or not.

HOW WE ARE GOING TO CLEAR THE RUBBISH IN THE FIRST PLACE. Amongst our team we are we have decided to choose litter pickers to collect as much rubbish as they can. They will be collecting litter during registration so not to miss lessons.

WHAT MATERIALS WILL WE NEED We will need strong bin bags, football goal, metal bins, basketball hoop, rectangular metal plate, litter picker forks

Thank you for watching!
