What is a consultation? The Department for Education are the part of government who make decisions about schools. They would like to know what young people think about PSHE education, including Relationships & Sex Education. They are making changes to the subject and what to know what topics matter the most to young people. Suggestions from today’s lesson will be passed to the government. This is known as a consultation.

Our priorities 1: Most important topic In groups, look at the 10 cards with PSHE topics on them. Rank the cards from 1 to 10, showing which you think is the most important to learn about, down to the one you think is less important. Make sure in your groups you discuss your reasons why you have made these choices. CHALLENGE: Are there any challenges and opportunities that young people face now and in the future that you would benefit from being taught about? 10: Less important topic

Shout it out! Choose a spokesperson from your group. They will have 60 seconds to explain which topic your group have chosen as number 1; the most important for young people to learn about. They should explain your group’s reasons convincingly!

Relationships and Sex Education In small groups, create a mind-map: What do you think young people need to learn in order to have healthy and happy intimate / sexual relationships in the future?

In charge for a year… Imagine you have been put in charge of PSHE in our school for a year and that you have unlimited time and money to spend to improve how the subject is taught. Create a leaflet, poster or school newsletter which explains all the things you would do to improve PSHE education and why.
