Why Curtin? Representatives in country: Curtin has a number of registered agents currently located within Brazil to help support students in their choice to come to Curtin. We also have a staff member located within the region, that makes regular visits to Brazil to showcase Curtin to prospective students. Experienced with Brazilian cohorts Curtin has had significant cohorts of Brazilian students, under the Science Without Borders program. Due to this we have been quick to recognize Brazilian university degrees, which in tun has allowed Brazilian students to have their units studied at Curtin recognised by their Brazilian institution. Vibrant Campus Life Surveys have found 82% of Brazilian respondents cite ‘cultural interest and lifestyle as a key factor in choosing a study destination.Curtin’s vibrant campus provides this to our Brazilian students. An example of this being the Etnia Latina Festival (held on campus next week) and featuring an authentic Latin experience with nonstop entertainment to discover and enjoy the wonders of Latin America. Curtin has events held on campus every week. Industry Partnerships to create graduate employability Curtin collaborates with some of the biggest companies in Australia and internationally, to ensure our research and education is relevant and that you graduate highly employable. The wide range of professional skills and challenges will broaden students perspectives and prepare them for a career anywhere in the world. Curtin has partnerships with more than 90 institutions worldwide and industry partners include Alcoa, Alzheimer’s Australia, Bankwest, BHP Billiton, Cancer Council Western Australia, Chevron, CSIRO, Rio Tinto, the Water Corporation and Woodside.

Collaborations-Curtin and Brazil

Curtin and Brazil Health Sciences Science and Engineering The Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute (CHIRI) collaborate with the University São Paulo and University Cruzeiro do Sul on research into ‘metabolic reprogramming’ in immune cells induced by dietary macronutrients, and the role of vitamin D in the promotion of muscle function and performance in humans undertaking exercise training. With Brazil just coming out of a severe drought that has affected many areas of the country over the past few years, it was timely that Associate Professor Joseph Awange from the Department of Spatial Sciences at Curtin University and his team of national and international researchers undertook research to study drought and rainfall patterns in that country. Business and Law Humanities Curtin has a strong cohort of business students from Brazil. Our graduates create invaluable industry links throughout their degree We have recently had professors from Curtin hold seminars on the areas of built environment (architecture) at UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais), Fundação João Pinheiro (João Pinheiro Foundation) and PUC (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l85XDkPe7J0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ-K7YthMj0

Competitive Advantage

Advantages of studying at Curtin Curtin has a history of innovation. Our industry partnerships have ensured that we are consistently offering relevant and innovative courses. With Brazil considered as one of the most entrepreneurial countries in the world, many of our Curtin Business School courses will appeal to Brazilian Students. Our new, Australian first of its name, Master of International Business and Entrepreneurship has had significant interest from the region. The course, which is the first course in Australia offered with this name, has a focus on tech-innovation in addition to strong industry and professional links with multinational businesses, providing the student with invaluable knowledge and experiences to advance their career. In addition to this the Curtin VC, DVCI and DVCR met with the Latin American (LATAM) Ambassadors to Australia at the end of September in Canberra. The Ambassadors received information that showcased Curtin’s strengths and research priorities, specifically in the mining and engineering disciplines which are also priority areas for development in their countries. We look forward to working with them in the future.
