Chinese Sport

Six Big sports in China 1. Basketball 2. Football 3. Badminton 4.Table tennis [Ping Pong] 5. Diving 6.Gymnastics

Chinese Basketball Yao Ming is a Chinese basketball player and he is over 7 foot 5. Around 3,000,000 people play basketball in China. Some teams in China are called The Beijing Ducks, The Hong Kong Flying Dragons and The Shanghai Sharks. Basketball is tied with football as China’s favourite sport.

Chinese Football There are around about 6,000,000 people in China who like football. Players are paid 1000000 yuan [$146,000] Lots of players from all over the wold are being paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to play in the Chinese leagues. Chinese teams are only allowed 3 players that are foreign in their team.

Chinese Badminton The longest Badminton match between Peter Rasmussen [Denmark] and Sun Jun [China] lasted 124 mins China used to call badminton Ti Zian Ji. In the 2000 Olympics China won 4 out of 5 of the gold medals you could win.

Table Tennis China dominates the sport. Table Tennis wasn’t invented in China it was actually invented in England. Table Tennis the world’s most popular racquet sport.

Chinese Diving In the 2004 Olympics China won 8 gold medals and 1 silver. China have won 27 medals in total at the Olympics more then any other sport. Chinese divers often bow to the pool after a dive to show it respect.

Chinese Gymnastics Dong Fangxiao was stripped of her medal in the Olympics because she was only 14. Chinese gymnasts from the age of 4 to 8 are taken away from their families to train in a camp. Chinese gymnasts train for 8 hours a day 6 days a week.
