Psalm 148: Let Them Praises Give Jehovah Wisdom From God Psalm 148: Let Them Praises Give Jehovah

The Last Psalm We’ll Cover For Now Psalm 148 becomes very familiar because of a great hymn we sing in worship to God. We are going to sing that song together this morning, a verse at a time interspersed with the sermon. We will offer praise to God along with all of creation as we worship together this morning.

Stanza 1: Praise To God From The Heavens Verses 1-6: “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; Praise Him in the heights! Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts! Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all stars of light! Praise Him, highest heavens, and the waters that are above the heavens! Let them praise the name of the Lord, For He commanded and they were created. He has also established them forever and ever; He has made a decree which will not pass away.”

Prominent Things To Notice First six verses speak of praise from the created things in the heavenly places. Each line is composed as a doublet Heavens, heights Angels, hosts Sun and moon, stars Highest heavens, waters above

A Call For All Creation To Hallal The word translated PRAISE is from the Hebrew word HALLAL It’s meaning is multifarious: it originally pertained to clarity of sound, then of color. It means TO SHINE, MAKE A SHOW, BOAST, TO RAVE, TO CELEBRATE Also means: TO GLORY, TO GIVE IN MARRIAGE, PRAISE, SING PRAISE, TO BE RENOWNED

Who/What Can Praise God? Can sky, heavens, constellations praise God? Do they have a voice? After a fashion they do! Psalm 96:11-12 – “Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all it contains; let the field exult, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy….” All nature sings

Can nature praise….? Psalm 19:1 – “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.”

Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” God compares His word to rain and snow

Stanza 2: Praise To God From The Earth Psalm 148:7-12 – “Praise the Lord from the earth, sea monsters and all deeps; fire and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling His word; mountains and all hills; fruit trees and all cedars; beasts and all cattle; creeping things and winged fowl; kings of the earth and all peoples; princes and all judges of the earth; both young men and virgins; old men and children.” All things on the earth praise God!

Categories Of Worshipers Denizens of the deep: sea monsters Elements of the skies: snow, hail Mountains, hills, forests Birds, beasts, cattle, bugs Royalty and commoners of all stations and ages.

Reasons Why We Hallelujah! Verse 13 – “Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven.” We praise because His name is exalted. 1 Timothy 6:15: “…which He will bring about at the proper time – He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and the Lord of lords.”

His Glory Shines Forth John 17:5, 22 – “Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was….The glory which You have given to Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one….” Christ shared His glory with us! He shines through us! Can we Hallelujah?

He Saves His People Verse 14 – “And He has lifted up a horn for His people, praise for all His godly ones; Even for the sons of Israel, a people near to Him. Praise the Lord!” Hebrews 7:25-26 – “Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”
