HOMEWORK! By Next Thursday (10/19), You Need: “Expanding On Evidence” Notes

Amazing Conclusion! It’s OK That’s Terrible In conclusion, my culture is a mix of many things. It is made up of appreciating pop culture art, loving to learn new things, and mixing all of that stuff into making me who I am today. Who I am today is like a mix of many different things that make me unique, just like the characters of Star Wars. Entry Task The best days are the ones when, exhausted, my head hits the pillow still processing the new bits of knowledge I have gained. That way, when I dream of vanquishing stacks of essays with my lightsaber pencil, knowledge is the weapon preparing me for the challenges of a new day. This is the narrative that keeps that nerdy side of me alive; the image of myself as the comic book hero or the silver screen swashbuckler that feeds my explorative desire; the foundation of the fraternal and familial friendships that inforce and invigorate the man I have become: The Uncanny Mr. Lessard. Look back at your notes about conclusions. Based on those notes, where would you put this conclusion on the number line. Be prepared to share your thoughts. Amazing Conclusion! It’s OK That’s Terrible

Today’s Goals for “Conclusions Practice” Focus 2: Structure Learn to organize writing with an introduction, linked ideas, transitions, and a conclusion. You will do this by practicing writing a fine-tuned conclusion. Today’s Goals for “Conclusions Practice” Put a heading on a paper.

Introductions Practice We just looked at a pretty disappointing conclusion. Today, you will have 20 minutes to write your own conclusion that does not fall into the traps of that one. Use your notes to help you. People who present will get points, but everyone must get their work approved, whether or not they present. When you present, you and your classmates will need to make an argument for how many points it’s worth using the rubric. Volunteers get the full point value. Voluntolds get ½ point value. Introductions Practice Astounding Respectable Getting There Needs Work The end of the paper satisfied the readers, and look forward to the next thing you will write. It empowered them to explore ideas further. This achievement is worth +50 points. We feel like the paper came to a solid end. The information seems relevant. This solid effort is worth +20 points. We see places where we want to care, but the end of the paper fell a bit flat. It’s a good beginning point that needs some tweaking. Still, you deserve +10 points. You tried, you really did. But this is hard, and the conclusion is still dull or powerless. We really should try again. +5 for effort.
