Presentation transcript:

Xiamen – by Bcomm student James McNulty

Xiamen Xiamen is well-located if you want to do some travelling. The South of China is really beautiful. A ferry ride from Taiwan. Not far from Hong Kong or Guangzhou. A short flight from Shanghai. You can even get a train to Vietnam. Everything is cheaper than the other cities, especially going out.

We are living in Jimei district, which is just outside Xiamen island

This is the campus

The campus Campus is based in Jimei District There are plenty of canteens, and the restaurant nearby are really cheap and tasty. There are plenty of shops on campus to buy all essentials basically. There are also all types of shops, cafes and restaurants just outside the campus. There’s a gym, two running tracks, two soccer pitches, four tennis courts and loads of basketball courts. Internet can be slow in the accommodation building.

Canteen food - 1 euro

Classes You will be split up into Chinese classes depending on your level. You also do business classes. They are several available in English. You can basically pick whatever class you want as long as it fits into your timetable. Your Chinese will get really, really good in Xiamen. (In the other cities there are too many foreigners).

Transport There are a lot of bus routes the stop beside the campus. They come frequently and only cost 1 yuan The largest train station in Xiamen is 5 mins from campus. From there you can get a train to basically anywhere in China or get the Bus Rapid Transit system across the island. There is also a metro which has stops pretty close to the University.

Xiamen life Xiamen is a small city by Chinese standards (4 Million!) but it’s famous for it’s beauty. The summer is very hot and humid but the winter is just like our summer. The air quality is the same as any big city in Europe. There’s a lot of beaches and bars.

Zhongshan Lu

Nightlife Really cheap to go out. Most of the clubs are a bit far away - it’s about 100 yuan for a taxi back. There’s also some pubs nearby where you can meet more foreign students.

Hope this is helpful! By James and Billy
