ISD Middle School Grading Practices Thursday, August 18, 2016

The ISD grading system at the middle school level will be: based on students’ mastery of skills. effectively communicated to students, parents, teachers, and other staff. implemented with professional development for teachers to ensure grading practices are consistent implemented consistently to establish accountability in grading practices.

Practice #1 Practice Category Test Category Gradebooks will use two categories to communicate student work and learning ng Test Category Assessment of learning targets Summative tests Projects Performance events Other assessments of student learning Students should be allowed to show improvement on tests and other assessments Practice Category Student work tied to learning targets Independent practice Class work/homework Exit tickets Formative checks for understanding Other practice leading to student proficiency

Academic Grades Grades will represent student’s mastery of class learning goals, also known as learning targets Grades based largely on assessment of learning Recorded in PowerSchool as “Test” Reassessment is allowed and encouraged ng

Academic Grades Students will also be asked to practice skills prior to assessment of learning Will include homework and/or classwork Tasks will be recorded as “Practice” ng

Academic Grades Content Area Adopted Percentages ng Practice Test English Language Arts 20% 80% Mathematics 10% 90% Science Social Studies Electives

College and Career Readiness Standards Practice #2 For each course, student non-academic skills will be reported as College and Career Readiness Standards. ng College and Career Readiness Standards Appropriate Behavior Engagement and Participation Preparedness for Learning Outstanding (O) consistently demonstrates these skills Satisfactory (S) generally demonstrates these skills Needs Improvement (N) occasionally has difficulty demonstrating these skills Unsatisfactory (U) consistently has difficulty demonstrating these skills These standards are not factored into the academic grade, but contribute to academic success!

PowerSchool Access Teachers consistently update PowerSchool with information about students’ grades. We encourage you to access Powerschool on a regular basis. If you do not have access, please contact our office during office hours to receive information on how to access your student’s PowerSchool information. ng
