Sustainable Maryland (www. sustainablemaryland Sustainable Maryland (www.sustainablemaryland.com) is an initiative of the Environmental Finance Center (www.efc.umd.edu), which is part of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Mission A Free and Voluntary program for municipalities that want to go green and save green! We help municipalities: Choose a direction for their sustainability efforts Improve access to resources Measure their progress Share success with other municipalities

Program Update Launched in 2011 55 communities registered (36% of 157 MD municipalities) 22 communities certified to date 8 new communities to be certified in October 2015, plus 4 re-certifications Add new certification tier in 2016/2017 Facebook page – Like Us! New website! Events & Grants

Frederick County Update City of Frederick certified in 2013 Brunswick, Burkittsville, Emmittsburg, Middletown, New Market and Thurmont are SM-registered 1st Frederick County Green Team Summit held in 2015 Bowie accepting Sustainable Maryland Award in 2013

Requirements Resolution indicating municipality intends to pursue SM certification 2 Mandatory Actions Create a Green Team, Create an Action Plan 2 of 6 Priority Actions Community Garden, Municipal Energy Audit, Green Purchasing Policy, Municipal Carbon Footprint, Watershed Plan, Stormwater Management Total of 150 points to receive certification
