PHASE I SESSION 1 – SLIDE 1 STATION 1: Transitions skating drill technique . Forward to first cone, backward transition to next, and repeat. Head up, chest up, NO hopping, keep head level on all turns. PROGRESSION: Continue focus on technique, add more speed, pucks, chase competition. STATION 2: Hockey turn drill edge control, inside and outside. Deep knee bend, head leads body, both blades on the ice, wide lower body, proper feet spacing. Edge control drill, work on inside and outside edges. Head up, chest up, cut the ice. PROGRESSION: Continue focus on technique, add more speed, pucks, chase competition. STATION 3: Crossover and cross under drills. Keep feet moving, Reach for next stride, forward and backward. Deep knee bend, Weight on front of skates. STATION 3: Shooting and skating technique. Shooting with your feet moving, eyes up, shoot with purpose. Cycle passing technique, keeping the puck to the outside, looking for scoring opportunity, eyes up, see pass-make pass. One time shot technique, grip stick tightly, short back swing, quick stick. PROGRESSION: Continue focus on technique, add more speed, shooting quicker, harder, more accurate. Practice shooting from both feet.

Stationary stickhandling, trying new moves on tri pod, feel the puck, soft hands. Pass and stick handle, building “feel” through your hands and stick. PROGRESSION: Continue focus on technique, add more speed, try new blade technique, get faster and smoother. STATION 3: Shooting and skating technique. Shooting with your feet moving, eyes up, shoot with purpose. Understanding “angling” all over the ice. Skaters will practice “angling” other skater into area he/she wants. Take the “line” and steer where you want them to go. PROGRESSION: Continue focus on technique, add more speed, shooting quicker, harder, more accurate. Practice shooting from both feet.

SMALL GAME 2: 3 on 3 w/ regroup focuses on offensive and defensive concepts and the addition of regroup passes and lateral movement. Offense, move and get open. Defensive, cover and stay goal side. Creates game – like situations. Each time a team (X or O) gains possession of the puck, they must pass the puck to XX or OO behind their net. XX and OO can move laterally behind the net(s). SMALL GAME 3: 3 on 3 mini cross ice focuses on offensive and defensive concepts and the addition of crashing the net and explosive transitions . Offense, move and get open, and crash the net. Defensive, cover and stay goal side, win tough battles. Creates game – like situations Team X plays with player XX, and the same with team O. Play 3 on 3, when team X gains possession on O side, they must pass to XX, all X players explode to goal O. Team X is looking for tips, screens, and entry on different levels. Team O must explode to cover X players on goal side, tie up sticks, body, play physical.
