Learner Expectation Content Standard: 4.0 Governance establishes structures of power and authority in order to provide order and stability. Civic efficacy requires understanding rights and responsibilities, ethical behavior, and the role of citizens within their community, nation, and world. 4.03 Understand the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of citizens living in a democratic republic.
In this activity you will: The student will demonstrate knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of an U.S. citizen. The student will write a paragraph summarizing the rights and responsibilities of an U.S. citizen.
Citizen’s Rights Every U.S. citizens has rights. A right is something that is owed a person. The most important right a citizen has is the right to vote.
Voting “By voting people have a voice in the government.” Each citizen should be well informed about the candidates and issues, because if elected they will represent them in government.
Voting A voter must be 18 years of age and an U.S. citizen.
Responsibility “Every citizen has the responsibility to obey the laws of the community, state, and country in which he or she lives.” All U.S. citizens are expected to respect the rights of others.
Writing Activity Write an organized paragraph stating the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizens.
