1- Why do we need irrigation? We don’t get enough rainfall in Utah

2- Why did people settle in the Wasatch Front? Streams of water coming down from the mountains

3- What act made Polygamy illegal? Morrill Act

4- What was the problem Utah faced when trying to become a state? People didn’t like Mormons, Polygamy was illegal, etc.

5-What were some problems pioneers faced once they got to Utah? Far away from everyone back east Need: jobs, food, shelter, etc. Already Natives there (fighting)

6- Whose trails did we use to make maps of Utah? Mountain men

7- When the ___________ was completed all of Utah’s industries grew. Transcontinental Railroad

8- What jobs brought many different religions to Utah? Mining and the railroad

9- What are some advantages to being a state instead of a territory? Choose your own leader More rights

18-What does the term “contribution” mean? The part someone played, how they helped something come to be, etc.

19- What is an immigrant? Someone who permanently moves to another country

20- Why did many people leave their homes and move west? Diseases Financial ($) problems

21- Why was polygamy a problem with Utah becoming a state? It was illegal at the time

22- Explain why immigration leads to diversity: They bring traditions, language, food, religions, etc. with them and share them in their new community
