Objective #51: Graph linear inequalities in 2 variables A linear inequality divides the coordinate plane into 2 parts with a boundary that is a straight line. ex. y > -3x - 2 The linear equation line is the boundary of the inequality. Solid line for ≤ or ≥, dashed line for < or > To graph a linear inequality – 1. Graph the boundary line (solid or dashed) 2. Choose a point not on the boundary line and test it in the original equation 3. If the test point is true, shade the region containing the test point. If it isn’t, shade the other region.

2 ways to graph the linear equation: Use the slope and y-intercept (the easiest way if the inequality is in y=mx + b form) Make an x/y chart (use at least 3 x values)
