Lesson 39: Praying for Preachers Nothing Better Lesson 39: Praying for Preachers

NEW COVENANT SACRIFICES I. Sacrifice of Praise (Heb. 13:15-16) II. Sacrifice of Submission (Heb. 13:17) III. Sacrifice of Supplication (Heb. 13:18-19)

Hebrews 13:18-19 18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly. 19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

PRAY FOR LIMITED LEADERS (Heb. 13:18a) 18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

PRAY FOR LIMITED LEADERS (Rom. 15:30-31) 30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; 31 That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;

PRAY FOR LIMITED LEADERS (Eph. 6:18-19) 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

PRAY FOR LIMITED LEADERS (Col. 4:1-3) 4 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. 2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; 3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

PRAY FOR LIMITED LEADERS (2 Thes. 3:1-2) 3 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.

PRAY FOR LIMITED LEADERS (Heb. 13:18a) A leader who seeks the prayers of others is a leader worthy of being followed. He is a humble kind of person who realizes his dependence upon the Lord.

Who to Pray for Anyone who is leading us spiritually.

A Word to Leaders

A Word to Leaders As we confess our limitations, we are in a position to both pray ourselves as well as seek the prayers of others for the otherwise overwhelming tasks at hand. It is then that we are blessed to experience God’s unlimited power.

PRAY FOR LOYAL LEADERS (Heb. 13:18b) 18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

PRAY FOR LOYAL LEADERS (Heb. 13:18b) Pray for the pastor’s conscience to remain clear before God and you.

PRAY FOR LOYAL LEADERS (Heb. 13:18b) Pray that he will live honorably and do what is right before God and you.

PRAY FOR LOVING LEADERS (Heb. 13:19) 19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

PRAY FOR LOVING LEADERS (Heb. 13:19) While we can only speculate about the exact situation of the preacher to the Hebrews, it is clear that he was absent from his congregation, that he desired to be with them, and that he loved them.

PRAY FOR LOVING LEADERS (Heb. 13:19) He wanted to be with them because he was concerned for the spiritual condition of the flock. He wanted a face to face ministry with them.

PRAY FOR LOVING LEADERS (Heb. 13:19) We need to protect a relationship of mutual affection with one another so that we remain approachable and accessible.

PRAY FOR LOVING LEADERS (Heb. 13:19) If there was some sort of tension between this preacher and his flock, he was not content for things to stay that way.

CONCLUSION: Prayer is to the Christian life what breathing is to human life. We need it to be sustained and survive, but we also need it to soar.
