Educational Media Center Definition of Educational Media Center

What is an EMC or Educational Media Center?

The Educational Media Center functions as a vital instrument as well as a basic requirement for quality education by enriching all parts of the school's educational process

The Educational Media Center (EMC) provides visual and audio media such as videos and CDs for teachers to use in their instructional program

It involve in the teaching and learning process

It is a source center and a learning laboratory

It is a center of recreational, viewing, and listening and it is a stepping stone to other community resource centers

ADVANTAGES OF EDUCATIONAL MEDIA CENTER

Meets the needs of students to be wise consumers of media, managers of information and responsible producers of their ideas using the powerful multimedia tools of a global media culture.

. Engages students. . . bringing the world of media into the classroom connects learning with "real life" and validates their media culture as a rich environment for learning.

Gives students and teachers alike a common approach to critical thinking that, when internalized, becomes second nature for life.

. Provides an opportunity for integrating all subject areas and creating a common vocabulary that applies across all disciplines.

Media literacy's "inquiry process" transforms teaching and frees the teacher to learn along with students -- becoming a "guide on the side" rather than a "sage on the stage."
