Undergraduate Student Representative AESS Board of Governors Meeting May 12-13, 2017 Seattle, WA Garrett Hall Undergraduate Student Representative, AESS

Objectives What are our long term strategic objectives? Current – Increase student participation through Mentoring and Networking Program New – Increase student participation through conference events Student Jobs/Internships Local Chapter and Student Branch Integration If a conference has an impact on the student’s career, they are likely to return. Creates brand loyalty. Discuss how student chapters are unstable. Involving local chapters can assist in generating stability. It also gives them a breath of fresh air. Focus is understanding the customer needs and working backwards to develop programs based on this. You don’t get people to join by forcing them to do things they don’t want to do. This includes all the rules and regulations required by universities to have a recognized student chapter. Model programs around: Selection, ease of use, and price We need to offer something exclusive to our engaged members. I suspect these ones are the ones who are more likely to stay members. 9/12/2018

Initiatives What are our short term (1-2 year) initiatives? Current Mentoring and Networking - complete New Student’s Sky Industrial Awareness Event ($5) 1 hour, 3 speakers, state ideal candidates Generate source of internships/jobs premier, platinum, gold given first right of refusal Sky Walk Conference Tours ($5) Walk around the conference with high profile escort Groups of 5-8 students Touch the Sky Scavenger Hunt ($5) Visit x booths, ask x questions, enter lunch raffle A student should be able to enter all three of these for less than $20 Able to complete in one morning Success measured in attendance and internship/jobs accepted The given names are for IEEE Aerospace Conference. The idea can be applied to any conference. Big Sky- Attendance 600 Radar – Attendance 450 Students don’t attend because of high cost – Rob Maher – Montana State University-Bozeman Sponsors – Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Gruman, Lockheed Martin Would the industrial Awareness Event be better placed at the Summer Camp? Should we even be charging them for it? Are booths and exhibits the same thing? Use Teresa as an example of important person for lunch raffle.

Highlights What positive outcomes have been achieved? Achievement: Deployment of Mentoring and Networking Program Impact: 13 mentees signed up I suspect Joe would have more to say on the impact. 9/12/2018
