FOREST BIOMES 7 TH GRADE SCIENCE Mrs. Weber. There are three different forest biomes, today we will discuss all three  Coniferous Forests  Deciduous.
Biomes.
Tropical Rain Forest Located Near the Equator High Precipitation No Seasons Temperate Rain Forest Middle Latitudes High Temperature Moderate Temperatures.
Assignment: Forest Biomes Bubble Map
Temperate Deciduous Forest Found in Europe, the eastern part of the U.S.A., and China.
Terrestrial Biomes Overview.
Biomes.
Biomes. Biomes Biomes are a group of ecosystems with similar climates (temperature and rainfall) and organisms.
Temperate Deciduous Forest. Temperate Deciduous Forest Location and Climate The mid-latitude deciduous forest biome is located between the polar regions.
TYPES OF FOREST ECOSYSTEM. DECIDOUS FOREST Decidous forest: are dominated by Decidous trees. These trees shed their leaves each year and re grow them.

Biomes Study Guide Review
Biomes. What’s a biome? A group of land ecosystems with similar climates (temperature & precipitation) and organisms. A group of land ecosystems with.

Unit 15: Terrestrial Biomes Overview. biome large geographic areas that have similar climates and ecosystems (the types of organisms that live there)
4-4 Biomes TUNDRA Cold and treeless Largest and northernmost biome Permafrost=permanently frozen layer of soil. Little rain, short growing season Grasses, mosses, caribou, snowy.

Chapter 2.4 BIOMES. Target 1 BIOME I will identify the main factors that are used to determine a biome. a) Climate which is based on: Temperature Precipitation.
Biomes. HOT TEMPERATURE COLD TUNDRA DESERT SAVANNA- Tropical Grasslands TROPICAL RAIN FOREST TEMPERATE GRASSLANDS TAIGA TEMPERATE DECIDUOUS FOREST LOW.
Biomes. Biomes are regions in the world that have their own kind of climate, soil, plants, and animals.
Earth’s Biomes Chapter 20.  Biomes are dependent on two very important environmental factors: Average Temperature and Average Rainfall  Biomes are named.
Chapter 9 Forest Biomes 9.1 Coniferous Forests The summers are warm and the winters are long, cold and dry. Coniferous----cone-bearing Conifers bear cones.
LAND BIOMES. Tundra inches of precipitation per year Winter -15 Summer 54F Soil is permafrost; frozen or partly frozen year round; fragile environment.
IX. Biomes Biomes = a large group of ecosystems with similar climates and organisms. Two factors that will determine which biome will be dominant on.
Essential Questions  What are the six major biomes found on Earth?  What factors determine the type of biome found in an area?
Terrestrial (Land) Biomes
The 6 most common biomes are:

Forests have these qualities: General Notes Forests have these qualities: A wide variety of plants, dominated by trees. Provides a variety of habitats for a variety animals. (birds, deer, bears, mice, opossum, insects, etc.)

Forest LAYERS: EMERGENT CANOPY UNDERSTORY FOREST FLOOR DRAW THIS!!

Brain Pop: Tropical Rain Forest DESCRIBE the Biome: Tropical Rain Forest: constant hot temp., high humidity, daily afternoon rains, poor soil, most animals live in the canopy, most biologically diverse, located near equator Animals- monkeys, birds of paradise, sloth, tons of insects, snakes, gorillas Plants- hardwood trees, vines (broadleaf plants) CLIMATE: Precipitation- up to 400 cm yearly (157.5 inches) Average Temperature- 20 (daytime)-34 degrees C (night) (translates to 68-93 degrees F) https://www.brainpop.com/science/earthsystem/tropicalrainforests/ Brain Pop: Tropical Rain Forest

**WE LIVE HERE!!!** Temperate Forest DESCRIBE the Biome: CLIMATE: Temperate Deciduous: - moderate/average temperatures which change a lot during 4 seasons, - abundant precipitation (plenty) - deciduous trees lose their leaves each fall - soils are rich in nutrients - (deciduous means “to fall off”) Animals- deer, porcupine, hawks, raccoons, frogs, turtles, owls, red foxes Plants- Deciduous trees such as Oak, maple, birch, poplar trees, etc. CLIMATE: Precipitation- 75cm-125 cm yearly (29-49 inches) Average Temperature- Summer: 28ºC (82ºF) Winter: 6ºC (43ºF) **WE LIVE HERE!!!**

Brain Pop: Taiga Taiga/Coniferous: DESCRIBE the Biome: CLIMATE: Taiga/Coniferous: winters are long & dry, lots of snowfall & short days, temps. range from cool to extremely cold, dominated by conifers (“cone-bearing”) Animals- moose, caribou, grey wolves, lynx, grizzly bear, reindeer Plants- Douglas fir, hemlock, pine, spruce trees, etc. CLIMATE: Precipitation- 35cm-75 cm yearly (14-29 in.) Average Temperature- Summer: 14ºC (57ºF) Winter: -10ºC (14ºF) https://www.brainpop.com/science/earthsystem/taiga/ Brain Pop: Taiga
