Single and multi camera production

Single Camera production This term means to use one camera for various different shots. This is most commonly used in television shows such as sitcoms etc. The advantage of using one camera is that you can be more flexible with the shooting of scenes for example you can move around more. Also all the footage is on one camera so it can be gathered easier. A disadvantage is that as there is only one camera you have to move it around and continuously set it up and its more time consuming. Additionally there's a risk of damage to the camera and loss of footage. Many programs such as ‘Friends’ and ‘Young and hungry’ are filmed using a single camera. (jill) (Single Camera Set Up)

Multi camera production Multi camera production means to use several cameras. This technique is most commonly used for live shows. Examples of live shows that use this technique are sports games, live talent shows and chat shows. The advantage of using multiple cameras is that the audience is seeing more then one view which additionally means more footage. Also its less likely that props will have moved etc. because it is all filmed at the same time. A disadvantage is that its less flexible and harder to move locations as it would be with a single camera. (snelly111) (Multi Camera Set Up)

Series format A television series is a programme that is on generally once a week. A series uses the same characters within the series. An example of a series is ‘Vampire Diaries’. This show started in 2009 and is currently still making new episodes (2017) A series can be different genres for example ‘The vampire diaries’ series is a mixture of romance, fantasy, teen drama and thriller. (Mirzad, Mirzad and profile)

Serial Format A serial show can be anything such as real life occurrence or book that has been made into a programme. They are generally only a few episodes long. (media, media and profile) Serial shows are ongoing, an example of a serial show is soap operas for example; EastEnders or Hollyoaks because they are continuous and have been on for years.

Single drama Single dramas are a singular television programme that is regularly based on real life. (media, media and profile) For example BBC do many singular programmes which is generally documentaries. One of these could be a singular programme the BBC ran on Jack the Ripper.

FILM AND TELEVISION SUB GENRES Period drama is a drama show set in a certain historical era as stated in ("The Definition Of Period Drama"). This can be a film or television show. A television example of a period drama would be downtown abbey which is set in 1912. A film example of a period drama would be Jane eyre. A drama documentary is a television show that is based on real events, it is much like a re- enactment. A crime show is a show that’s characters primary focus is to investigate crime or to have the criminals point of view. An example of a crime show is Luther or the bill. Soap operas are a type of serial show because they are continuous. A good example of this would be EastEnders as it has been running for around 30 years with no intent to stop anytime soon. The comedy genre can be used in both film and television. This is used with the intent to make the audience laugh etc. Comedy films/ shows can generally have a element of romance to it which is referred to as rom com.
