Positioning and Correct Attachment of the Baby at the Breast . INFANT FEEDING TEAM OCT 2013

Baby’s whole body facing mum. Support their neck, shoulders and back in a straight line. Avoid putting hands or fingers on the back of your baby’s head.

Hold baby with nose opposite your nipple

Let your baby’s head tilt back. Wait until they open their mouth

Baby’s chin and bottom lip touch the breast first – about 3cm away from nipple.

Quickly and firmly bring baby close - your nipple enters along the roof of baby’s mouth.

Your baby is now latched successfully to the breast.
