Live theater is a very common event type Live theatrical events can include stage plays, musical theater, and even comedy shows. They may take place in any theater, from a small one to one that seats thousands of people. Can you name two countries (besides the United States) that made a major contribution to the history of theater?

Some theatrical events incorporate music These events can include opera, light opera, vaudeville, and musical theater. Take a guess: what’s the difference between opera and musical theater?

There are many types of music events Events can range from a concert for thousands of fans to a solo artist performing at a small nightclub. How do you think the type of music (country, hip-hop, etc.) will affect how the event is planned?

Dance shows range from ballet to ethnic celebrations Name the different types of dance shown here. What other types of dance are there?

Dance, music, and theater events have something in common They have some groups that consistently perform together and consistently perform the same type of dance, music, or theater. Look at these three pictures. What type of show would each of these groups do? What type of show would they not do?

Film events are more than just going to the movies Film events include world premiere screenings and film festivals. These events are very different from an ordinary trip to the movies. What film festivals have you heard of? Why do you think film festivals are important?

All of these events could be held in the same location It’s called a presenting venue. Most large cities have at least one, and some cities have several. What do you think are the characteristics of a presenting venue? Why is a presenting venue important?
